Audio Mixer - Compression

Written by Yoanna Hristova

Grabyo Live features a simple but fully functional dynamic range compressor to help you land the right mix for your production. Whether you need subtle compression or brick-wall limiting, the built-in tool gives complete control over your audio signals.

Getting started with compression

Click the enabled icon within the audio interface to activate the compressor. Once it is on, a complete set of controls is available to shape the sound.

Control

What it does

Threshold

Sets the level at which the compressor begins to engage

Ratio

Adjustable from 1:1 up to 24:1 — everything from gentle levelling to strict brick-wall limiting

Knee softness

Customises how gently or aggressively the compressor transitions into gain reduction

Attack and release

Fine-tunes how quickly the compressor responds to peaks and how fast it lets go. An automatic mode is included

Makeup gain

At the bottom of the interface. Boosts overall volume after the signal has been compressed to reach your required loudness

✅ Tip: If you are not sure where to start with attack and release, switch them to automatic mode and shape the sound with threshold and ratio first.

Multi-stage processing

Compression is not limited to a single master fader. It is available across:

  • All inputs

  • All submix groups

  • All outputs

This means you can implement multiple stages of compression throughout the signal chain — light control at input, glue on a submix group, and final limiting at output.
