Ad break

Written by Yoanna Hristova

Managing ad breaks efficiently is crucial for seamless broadcasting. The control room features a dedicated ad break panel that gives full control over your ad integration and replacement assets.

Managing the ad break timer

Open the ad break panel in the sidebar. From here you can manually start and stop the ad break, and customise the timing.

Option

What it does

Duration

Sets the total length of the ad break

Marker offset

Gives downstream systems adequate time to prepare for the break

Countdown

Displays a countdown timer directly in the program window — a 5-second countdown, for example, starts the ad break timer visibly on screen

📕 Note: if you need to cancel a break, the cancellation will only succeed if your downstream system is designed to respect the cancel command.

Loading and replacing assets

The control room also supports asset management, ensuring smooth transitions and covering regional or downstream ad placements.

  • Lead-in and lead-out: load specific assets to play immediately before or after the ad break

  • Replacement assets and slates: load a replacement asset or a slate to play underneath any additional downstream ads

Using the ad break sidebar for ad blanking

The ad break sidebar simplifies management of replacement assets. Add an asset to any layer within your control room and it becomes instantly accessible in the sidebar menu.

Once you select and activate the asset, it plays automatically whenever SCTE triggers are received — giving you straightforward ad blanking.

✅ Tip: the ad break panel controls the timing and the markers; the sidebar controls what viewers see. Configure both before going live.
