Remote contribution - Guest

Written by Yoanna Hristova

Grabyo Guest brings in contributors from anywhere in the world using nothing more than a laptop. Whether you are managing video feeds, coordinating audio mixes or troubleshooting technical issues from afar, it provides a robust set of tools for high-quality remote contribution.

Setting up and connecting your guest

Adding a new contributor is straightforward. Click the plus icon, select Remote contribution, choose the remote contribution source and give the source a name. Producers can configure initial setup options — such as allowing video or screen sharing — though these can also be amended after the guest is live on air.

Connecting a contributor

  1. Click SHOW for the link and copy it

  2. When the guest opens the link they will see a login page

  3. Clicking CONTINUE lets the guest choose their preferred hardware devices — selecting between available microphones, or starting cameras

  4. Once the inputs are ready, the guest clicks START STREAMING to connect

Managing the guest experience

Once connected, producers decide what content is sent back to the contributor. Different feeds can be routed to them, including an English video mix, a clean video mix, or independent ISOs for individual cameras.

On the guest's end, the interface is designed for ease of use.

Control

What the guest can do

Viewing options

Choose which cameras they view using the pin icon, toggling between a single-screen viewer mode and a double-screen layout

Audio monitoring

Monitor incoming audio and adjust signal levels directly

Controls and communication

Quick buttons at the bottom of the interface mute and unmute the microphone and camera, alongside an integrated chat function

Remote management and audio processing

Producers retain deep technical command over the guest's stream. In the guest-specific settings you can alter talkback modes, allow lazy talkback, enable or disable video, and change the specific sources shared with the contributor.

Built-in audio processing

Effect

Automatic gain control

Attempts to level out inconsistent speaking volumes

Echo cancellation

Removes audio spill from playback equipment

Noise suppression

Filters out continuous background noise such as air conditioning units or mains hum

📕 Note: Echo cancellation can occasionally cause issues if a microphone and speaker sit too close together — for example when a guest is using an integrated Bluetooth headset.

Troubleshooting a guest remotely

If a guest selects the wrong hardware, producers can remotely change their audio or video devices, as well as mute and unmute them.

A system information panel displays the guest's browser version, available device memory and system load — letting the crew quickly identify a guest running out of system memory because of too many open tabs or applications.

Advanced audio routing and guest returns

Grabyo Guest offers flexible options for routing monitoring audio back to contributors.

Route the main output to guest returns

In the audio mixer settings, turning on the toggle to route the main output path to guest returns ensures any subsequently added guest automatically receives audio from the main output channel. To prevent confusion and echoing, this main output mix automatically subtracts the guest's own input feed.

Build a custom mix

Select a specific output channel — output three, for example — and choose the remote contribution source from the dropdown menu. This routes a dedicated guest return with the standard pre-fader and after-fader options. Any mix routed to that output automatically feeds to that guest, making it ideal for a standalone guest return, or for mirroring pre-existing outputs in complex multi-language productions.

✅ Tip: a guest needs only a browser link. Everything else — devices, processing, what they see and what they hear — stays under the producer's control from the control room.
