Media Player

Written by Yoanna Hristova

Whether you are managing multiple assets, fine-tuning playback speeds or routing complex audio tracks, the media player provides the flexibility required for professional broadcasting.

Adding a media player

Add a new source and select Media Player. You will be prompted to give the player a custom name. During setup you can configure how the player behaves relative to your live broadcast.

Option

Behaviour

Autoplay when on air

Automatically starts or resumes playback the moment the media player is taken live

Auto pause when off air

Automatically pauses the asset when the player is taken off air, holding it for seamless resumption later

Playlist management and non-destructive editing

By default the media player opens directly to its playlist page, which is the central hub for managing and adding assets.

Sourcing assets

Populate the playlist by importing assets directly from the central asset library, or by adding previously created replay clips.

Playlist customisation

Once assets are added you have total control to reorder the playlist, append new files, or delete unwanted content.

Trimming and clip isolation

Files can be edited directly by amending their in and out points. These adjustments are instance-specific.

✅ Tip: Because trims are per instance, the same media file can appear several times in one player — or across different players — each with completely separate in and out points. That makes it easy to trim a longer package into smaller, bite-sized clips.

Dynamic playback and speed controls

Standard playback options are Play One, Loop and Play To End. Beyond these, speed can be adjusted with a manual slider or a dropdown menu.

For a more tactile operational experience, these functions can be mapped to key bindings — letting operators use a T-bar for smooth real-time speed transitions, or assign specific speeds to button commands.

When editing an individual asset in the trim window you can also set a playback speed for that clip alone. Individual clip speeds are multiplicative with the overall media player speed controller.

This dual-layer system allows for both preconfigured speed adjustments and on-the-fly live speed changes during a broadcast.

Advanced multi-track audio routing

For complex productions, the media player supports advanced output configuration for multi-track audio files.

  1. Load a multi-track file. Input a media file containing multiple tracks of audio into the player

  2. Configure audio tracks. Use the built-in menu to add audio tracks and define the specific channel width for each

  3. Select tracks independently. In the audio mixer's track selection dialogue, route the media player source multiple times so you can independently select and isolate a different audio track for each instance

Once isolated, these tracks can be mixed, adjusted and routed within the main audio mixer just like any standard audio source, giving absolute control over the broadcast's soundscape.

✅ Tip: the media player is a playlist with per-instance trims, a two-layer multiplicative speed model, and multi-track audio that behaves like any other source once routed into the audio mixer.
